WERE YOU LEFT BEHIND? THERE IS HOPE. INFORMATION PAGE UNDER "TEACHINGS".
If you have found this letter, God must have led you to it. This is written to explain why a lot of people have disappeared from the Earth. In the Bible there is a passage that will explain some of it.
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” (1stThessalonians 4:16-17)
Today is Monday, September 25, 2023. The Rapture (Rapture is the moment when we meet the Lord in the air.) has not happened yet, but we expect it any day now. We have gathered some materials that will help you to understand what has happened, why it happened, and what is coming next.
You will need a Bible. Having a printed Bible is probably the best to have because the government will almost certainly prohibit any Christian materials on the internet. But if you’ve found one of the packets that we put together you will find a flash drive labeled END TIMES. It can be used on your computer without needing to be on the internet. (NOTE: You will probably want to avoid the use of the internet or smart phones. Avoid using them because they can be used as tracking devices.)
If you no longer have the use of a computer, you will still have the Bible, which will help you to understand what is going on. If you can find a Bible Commentary, it will help also. (A Commentary explains the Bible verses in a way that is easy to understand.)
In the Bible, Jesus told of a time in the future when He would come back for those who put their faith in Him.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:1-3)
The place that Jesus was talking about is Heaven, where we will be soon. You will be able to join us in time if you sincerely ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior. Putting your complete faith and trust in God and his Son Jesus right now will keep you from going to Hell when this is all over.
Now that the Rapture has happened there will be seven more years before God destroys the current Earth that He will replace with the New Earth. These seven years will be very hard. There will be horrible things happening during this time. Some of it will be supernatural, just like the Rapture was. But there will also be times of terrible violence all around the world. Sadly, millions of people will not survive the entire seven years. But as long as they have truly asked Jesus to be their Savior, they will go directly to Heaven when this life is over, which is wonderful news. God has told us some of the things we can expect when we leave this world.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
“He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true." (Revelation 21:4-5)
The Book of Revelation at the end of the Bible tells what the next seven years will be like. The first 3 ½ years will not be as bad as the last 3 ½ years. A man who claims to be a god will break a covenant with Israel at the halfway point. That’s when things will get really bad.
If you have never really prayed to God before you can say something like the prayer that I will write for you below. But you MUST know that God is the only way that you will escape life in Hell for eternity. You MUST realize that Jesus really did die on the cross for you. Be sincere with God. Don’t be afraid to talk to Him. Try saying something like this…
“DEAR GOD. I DIDN’T UNDERSTAND HOW IMPORTANT YOU WERE. BUT NOW I WANT TO GIVE MY LIFE TO YOU. PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR MY SINS. PLEASE SAVE ME FROM HELL. PLEASE HELP ME TO GET THROUGH THIS HORRIBLE TIME. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS I WILL NEVER DENY THAT YOU ARE MY GOD AND MY LORD AND SAVIOR. THANK YOU, JESUS, FOR DYING ON THE CROSS FOR ME. I PRAY THIS IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.”
If you said that prayer and meant it, you are now a born again believer. In the Gospel of John he wrote…
“Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." (John 3:3)
No matter what happens from this point on just keep focused on spending eternal life with us in Heaven and on the New Earth.
NOTES:
1. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE THE “MARK OF THE BEAST”. (Revelation 13:15-18) “The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.”
"If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, they, too, will drink the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name." This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.”
(Revelation 14:9-12)
2. THE WORLD WILL TRY TO TELL EVERYONE THAT THERE WAS NO RAPTURE. THEY MIGHT SAY IT WAS AN ALIEN ABDUCTION OR SOME KIND OF WEIRD PHENOMENUM. DON’T BELIEVE THEM. SOME WILL BELIEVE THEM AND PROBABLY END UP IN HELL. (This is why there was so much talk about aliens prior to the Rapture. Satan did not want people to know that God had taken the people who disappeared. He wants them to think that he is God.)
3. BE CAREFUL WHO YOU TRUST FROM NOW ON. IT EVEN SAYS IN THE BIBLE THAT PEOPLE WILL TURN AGAINST EACH OTHER BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.
4. THE ANTI-CHRIST (THE ONE WHO PRETENDS TO BE THE WORLDS SAVIOR) WILL EVEN PERFORM MIRACLES, BUT DON’T LISTEN TO HIM. (Again, He wants the world to think that he is the Messiah (Savior) and not Jesus.)
5. PRAY AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. BY READING THE BIBLE AND PRAYING IT WILL BECOME EASIER FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND WHAT GOD MIGHT BE TRYING TO SHOW YOU TO HELP YOU THROUGH THIS HORRIBLE TIME.
6. CONTINUE READING YOUR BIBLE EVERY DAY, ESPECIALLY THE BOOK OF REVELATION AND THE GOSPEL OF JOHN. (This will help you recognize things from the Book of Revelation as they happen in the world. If you can, try to anticipate Satan’s next move so you can be ready to act accordingly.)
7. THINK ABOUT ALTERNATIVE PLACES TO SHELTER SHOULD THE NEED ARISE.
8. TRY TO STORE ANY FOOD, WATER, MEDICAL SUPPLIES, AND CLOTHING THAT YOU CAN. (When the mark of the beast is implemented, you will not be able to buy or sell as usual unless you have the mark of the beast. BUT YOU MUST NOT TAKE THE MARK!)
9. YOU MAY WANT TO PREPARE A BACKPACK IN CASE YOU NEED TO MOVE IN A HURRY. (Have a place prepared to go to if you should need to move quickly.)
10. AND LASTLY…TRUST GOD AT ALL TIMES. HE WILL SEE YOU THROUGH THIS.
A lot of what will be happening during the seven-year tribulation period will probably be hard to understand. The Book of Revelation gives us clues as to some of these things, but much won’t be understood until it actually happens.
As hard as it may seem, this is the way that God has chosen to save those who at first did not believe or follow Jesus before the Rapture. He wants to know for sure that you will not deny Him during these seven years, especially by taking the mark of the beast. Once you take that mark you will not be able to inherit eternity with God.
No matter who you are, we have been praying for you before the Rapture, and we will continue to pray for you from Heaven. And once you have truly asked Jesus to be your Savior God will watch over you. And if it looks like things are getting too hard for you just remember that if anything should happen…the moment you take your last breath you will be in Heaven with us.
Dear Father God,
Please watch over this person. Help keep them safe during these hard times. Hear their voice when they call out to You to be their Savior. Help them to understand the never-ending love that You have for them. Help them understand the Bible when they read it. Help them to hear Your voice through this time, guiding them wherever they go. Provide them with good food and water to sustain them. Thank you, Father. I pray this in Jesus Christ’s glorious name. Amen
We look forward to welcoming you to Heaven. When you get here there will never be anymore pain, suffering, sorrow, or dying. But you will live forever in a new world with no sin, only love. God Bless you!
PEOPLE MAY SAY THAT I’M CRAZY,
BUT I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE!
John Lennon wrote “You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one” And he went on to write “I hope someday you'll join us.”
I’ve always been a big Beatles fan. Many of their songs had lyrics that spoke to me.
John Lennon’s “Imagine” spoke of a better world, a world where we could be as one, living in peace with each other.
I don’t know if John had ever asked Jesus into his life, but in “Imagine” he sure echoed a lot of what God wants for us.
Well, our wait is almost over.
Believers over the last two thousand years have waited patiently for the Lord’s return, the time when He would come back to take us to be with Him in Heaven, the Rapture. That time is just around the corner, literally.
A disciple named Titus called the Rapture “our blessed hope”.
“The blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.” (Titus 2:13-14)
The Apostle Paul wrote this, concerning the Rapture…
“According to the Lord's word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.” (1st Thessalonians 4:15-17)
When I first became a Christian, I wanted to tell the world about Jesus, and God’s gift of Salvation. But now my time to do that is almost over. I’m excited about it. I look forward to meeting Jesus, face to face, and seeing the Heaven that we’ve all tried to imagine.
I look forward to meeting all my brothers and sisters in Christ from all around the world. And seeing family and friends who have already gone to be with the Lord is another thing that I am looking forward to.
If you haven’t already started watching for Christ, now’s the time. It’s time to start imagining if you will. Soon our “imagination” will become a reality, one that will last forever. It reminds me of when we were kids, when we would daydream about going to wonderful new worlds and exploring them. Those were times when we didn’t have a care in the world. Remember?
Now we can actually, even as adults, look to the skies and watch for the new world that awaits us. God is about to send his Son Jesus back to get us. It’s a time that we are supposed to be watching for.
The clues that the Bible gives us are manifesting themselves daily, and have been for some time now. And Jesus told us that these things would happen just before His return. So, He warned us…
“Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man."
"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” (Luke 21:36 and Matthew 24:42)
What do you think that Jesus meant by “be always on the watch” and “Therefore keep watch”?
I think He meant it literally. We know that He will be coming in the air, in the clouds. So, I think that we should look to the sky from time to time. But there are other ways that we can be looking. If you’ve been born-again, you’re probably thinking about Jesus quite a bit, and longing to see the place that He’s preparing for you.
But Jesus also knew that there would NOT be a lot of us watching for His coming. Why is that you might ask. Well, a lot of churches and preachers have stopped preaching the Gospel as it is written in the Bible. Because of that people aren’t hearing about His return and the end times. But like I said, Jesus knew that.
And because it’s been 2000 years many just blow it off, thinking that it might be another 2000. That’s understandable, but foolish. The Bible tells us that Jesus would be coming back. He didn’t say when, but He promised that He would.
Many Christians know that a day to God is like a thousand years. So that would mean that the wait for Jesus has been just over two days…according to God. That’s why we should be watching!
If we go on with life thinking that Jesus is not coming back for another 2000 years, we may be prone to put other things in life before Jesus. This is the same Jesus that died on the cross for you, to save you from eternal damnation. If you are not spending time daily with God, in His Word and prayer, you have put Jesus on the things to do later list.
The very last thing in this world that you should want to happen is for Jesus to say to you “I never knew you.” When we asked Him to be our Savior it should have put Him at the very top of our list, and never leaving that spot.
Do you remember when you first asked Jesus to be your Savior? Do you remember why you asked Him? Did you mean it? Have you spent the days since then wanting to learn more about Him? Have you prayed to Him daily, keeping as close to Him as possible?
You can do these things if you try, that is if you really want to. I used to get up about 30 minutes early on workdays so that I could spend at least 20 of those 30 minutes reading the next chapter in my Bible, and praying to God, asking Him to help me through my day.
If you have not been giving God that small amount of time each day, then you may very well hear Him say “I don’t know you.” That is exactly what He said would happen to anyone who came to Him at the end of the world but did not make time for Him since that day when you supposedly asked Him to be your Savior.
I say these things because there really are so many people that haven’t truly made Jesus their Lord and Savior. They wanted the Savior part, but without the Lord part. They have called themselves Christians but have never carried their cross as the Bibles says.
Carrying that cross includes reading the Bible, studying it, meditating on passages that “spoke” to you, and praying. Not just once a week, but every day. If you have not been doing these things, you may not be saved. That’s means that when Jesus’ appearing does happen there is a very good chance that you will be left behind. Only those who have dedicated their lives to Jesus because of what He did on the cross for them will be raptured, spared from the worst seven years the world has ever seen, when billions of people will die.
No matter how well intentioned we have lived our lives, the only thing that can save us from what is coming…is Jesus.
He’s coming very soon now. It won’t be another 2000 years. It could be as soon as tomorrow. And I do that mean that…TOMORROW.
Open your Bible, pray right now and ask Jesus to be your Savior before TOMORROW is here.
“I hope “today” you’ll join us”
God Bless you!
I look forward to seeing you all in Heaven!
"A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions."
Proverbs 18:2
We are taught that we should be quick to listen and slow to speak. (James 1:19)
Many have ignored the Bible and its teachings. Many have ignored those who are preaching the Word of God and telling others how to be saved.
I was one of those. I thought that I was smart enough to make it through this world on my own common sense and street smarts.
I was a fool. I had my own definition of what was right and wrong in life. I had no clue.
If I had listened things would have been much different.
But, because I put my "opinions" above the knowledge and understanding of God, I lost a lot of things that I will probably never be able to recover.
Do you know what tomorrow will bring? Are you sure?
Do you know where you are going if you should die tomorrow? Are you sure?
Concerning the future...
"He (Jesus) said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?
Luke 12:54-56
How do you interpret this present time?
After you have answered this question with your own thoughts, open up the Bible and read the following passages to see what God says about this present time.
Luke 21:5-36
Matthew 24 - The whole chapter
Mark 13 - The whole chapter
THE TIMES THAT THOSE PASSAGES SPOKE OF ARE HERE!
Which means that even as soon as tomorrow it could be the start of what the Book of Revelation teaches about...the last seven years of the planet.
You might want to share this. Soon it will be too late.
One's opinions are important, but knowing God's truth right now is crucial to every man, woman, and child on Earth.
Their Eternity, and yours, depends upon it.
Holy Bible (NIV) New International Version 1984
HE IS COMING SOON
"It is the Lord!"
(John 21:7)
Lately I find myself stirred by unusual sounds. The ones that seem to come out of nowhere. I catch myself gazing up into the clouds that fill the otherwise blue sky. And often times I catch my mind wandering off to a place where there is nothing but silence.
From the time I first understood that Jesus was coming back someday, I began to notice these things more and more as the days and years passed by. Sometimes I’ll hear something that will make me think of a trumpet blast from Heaven. And when I look up at the clouds, I imagine them majestically parting for Jesus’ return. When those moments of silence sneak up on me, I sense being somewhere ten million miles from here, in a place like Heaven, or on the New Earth.
The short piece of Scripture above speaks of the time when the Apostle John and six others went fishing. Suddenly a voice from the shore calls out "Friends, haven't you any fish?" They answered “No.” Then the voice calls back "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." Before they knew it the nets were overflowing with large fish. There were so many that they had trouble hauling them in. John, knowing they had just experienced a miracle, called out to Peter “It is the Lord!” With this, Peter grabbed his garment and jumped into the water and made his way to shore.
This was the third time that Jesus had shown himself to his disciples. I’m sure they were all excited, but Peter couldn’t wait to see Him. So much so, that he left the others behind to bring in the catch of fish. I’m with Peter. I can’t wait to see Jesus.
I don’t know when, but one of these days Jesus is going to surprise us…
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.”
“It is the Lord!”
“After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.”
“Therefore encourage one another with these words.” (1st Thessalonians 4:16-18)
ARE YOU MISSING SOMETHING IMPORTANT?
OR
ARE YOU TRYING TO FILL IN THE BLANKS?
Sometimes we have to search out the Scriptures to better understand the things of God. Sometimes we have to look deeper into His Word if we want to gain true wisdom and better understanding concerning many of His teachings.
Jesus said something that truly brings this thought into the light. When he went to Matthew’s home for a dinner, the Pharisee’s asked…
"Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
“On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." (Matthew 9:11-13)
After Jesus said this, they could have said, “We should learn what this means!” But it does not look like they did, because later on they confronted Jesus again when His disciples were picking grains as they walked along.
“When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, "Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath."
“He answered, "Haven't you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. Or haven't you read in the Law that the priests on Sabbath duty in the temple desecrate the Sabbath and yet are innocent?”
“I tell you that something greater than the temple is here.”
“If you had known what these words mean, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." (Matthew 12:2-8)
Here, the big lesson was to learn the meaning of mercy. But rules, regulations, and the traditions of men were more important to the Pharisees. It was their way of being in control. But as we find in much of the Bible, God desires mercy towards our fellow man. He knows that we are humans stranded in an evil world, and that forgiveness, and understanding, are huge building blocks in becoming more like Christ, which should be our ultimate goal.
Another time when Jesus went to Nazareth…
“…on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
“Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."
“All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked. Jesus said to them, "Surely you will quote this proverb to me: 'Physician, heal yourself!' And you will tell me, 'Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.'"
"Truly I tell you," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown.”
“I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah's time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.”
“And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian."
“All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.” (Luke 4:16-30)
This is an interesting event that Luke recorded in his Gospel. What started out as a normal reading of Scripture in the synagogue, suddenly turned into an angry mob of people trying to kill Jesus. What happened?
First of all, not everyone in attendance was glad to see Jesus there preaching to them. Some might have been Pharisee’s who had already heard the rumors about Him, and others may have known Jesus from his days of working with his father the carpenter.
It probably started when Jesus said, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." I’m sure the Pharisee’s were wondering what Jesus meant. “How is this scripture fulfilled?”
Jesus had just told them that He had been anointed by the Lord to declare the good news to the poor, the prisoners, the blind, and the oppressed…
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.” (Matthew 5:3-11)
He put it another way when John the Baptist sent some men to find out about Jesus…
“The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.” (Matthew 11:5)
The “good news” was not such good news to the Pharisee’s. Jesus was declaring that faith in Him, their long-awaited Messiah, would provide the righteousness they needed instead of being bound by rules and regulations that none of them could keep, even the Pharisee’s themselves. This meant that the Pharisee’s might lose their power over the people…
“They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.”
"Everything they do is done for people to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called 'Rabbi' by others.” (Matthew 23:4-7)
When Jesus confronted the Pharisee’s, and some of the others about their refusal to listen to who He was, he reminded them about the prophets in the past who had gone into the world but were ignored by the people of Israel. He said…
"Truly I tell you," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown.”
When they realized that Jesus was comparing them to the obstinate Israelites of the past, who God turned away from, it was a slap in the face to them. Many of these leaders were jealous of the impact that Jesus was having on the people. The Bible says that Pilate knew of their envy of Jesus, and that was why they turned Jesus over to him to be tried. (See Mat 27:18)
Their envy and anger turned into a full-blown hatred for Jesus, even to the point of wanting to kill Him. (And these were the “religious” people of the day.)
Jesus came to tell them the good news…all of them…even the Pharisee’s. But they missed the signs. They missed, or ignored, what the prophecies had said about the coming Messiah. But each day that they were with Him they played a part in the “fulfillment” of God’s ultimate plan, to save humanity.
Some came to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior because of everything that had happened. At least one of them was a Pharisee, Nicodemus. The Bible doesn’t say that he got saved, but some historians believe that he was. Being an important man in the Sanhedrin he most likely studied the Scriptures, and probably recognized many of the signs. Because of these, I believe he sought out Jesus to find out what he could.
“Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him."
Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again."
"How can someone be born when they are old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother's womb to be born!"
Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.
You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'
The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."
"How can this be?" Nicodemus asked.
"You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things? Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?
No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him." (John 3:1-16)
Jesus had just filled in the blanks for Nicodemus. The next two verses explain why Jesus came from God as Nicodemus had said…
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16-17)
Nicodemus is a great example of someone who was “seeking God”. When Jesus was being persecuted, just before His crucifixion, Nicodemus actually tried to help Jesus…
“Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked, "Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?"
“They replied, "Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee." (John 7:50-52)
The Pharisee’s used part of the Scriptures concerning Jesus…but not all of them. We must be thorough when searching out answers in God’s Word. Speaking of “seeking God”, Moses wrote…
“But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.
When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him. For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.” (Deuteronomy 4:29-31)
David said to his son…
"And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.” (1 Chronicles 28:9)
The Lord said to Solomon…
“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
If you are seeking to find God, so that your life can be healed, call on Him. Seek Him by reading the four Gospels found at the beginning of the New Testament, especially the Gospel of John.
He can be found all through the Bible. He’s just waiting for you to open it up and ask Him to reveal Himself to you through the Words written on the pages. Seek and you shall find.
The most important thing in the world is knowing God and His Son Jesus. Because of them you can have eternal life.
Much of the world ignores God, but you don’t have to. And He won’t ignore you either.
And don’t be like the Pharisee’s who thought that their “religion” was enough…it wasn’t.
Just like Jesus told Nicodemus…
"Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." (John 3:3)
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
God Bless you!
“But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
(Matthew 7:14)
If you are a Christian, you know that the small gate that is mentioned above symbolizes Jesus, and that the narrow road that leads to eternal life symbolizes following Him.
Following Jesus means spending time with Him in prayer, and in reading, studying, and meditating on the Holy Bible. It means worshipping Him from your heart, and living to please Him each day by becoming more like Him as you adopt the teachings that are found in the Word of God. But it also means letting go of old practices that are not pleasing to God.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:1-2)
Have you ever wondered why only a few find this way that Jesus pointed out? His name is known throughout the world, so where are all the people who should be following Him? Many know His name but are following someone, or something else. And there are many more who aren’t following anyone at all.
When you look around the world it is filled with many different religions, with many different teachings, including Christianity. An online search said…
“It may surprise you to know that there are over 4,000 recognized religions in the world. These religions consist of churches, congregations, faith groups, tribes, cultures, and movements. Even though there are so many, three-quarters of the world's population practice one of the five major religions.”
“Religion has played a highly important role in the lives of human beings. Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism are five of the great religions of the world.”
Do you know what the definition of a religion is? Here are a couple that I found in another search…
“Religion is a set of organized beliefs, practices, and systems that most often relate to the belief and worship of a controlling force, such as a personal god or another supernatural being.”
“The scholars of philosophy of religion see the definitions of religion tend to suffer from one of two problems: they are either too narrow and exclude many belief systems which most agree as religious, or they are too vague, wide, generic and ambiguous, suggesting that just about any and everything is a religion.”
Well, first, Jesus is not a religion! He is the Son of God who came to the world to save it from Hell.
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:17)
People that follow Jesus’ teachings are called Christians. Believe it or not it took me over forty years to figure that out. I thought that you just went to church once a week and “poof” you were a Christian. Nope. It’s not quite that easy. Looking at the small gate and narrow road in the verse above will help explain why for some people becoming a Christian isn’t as easy as many pastors like to make it look. Do I mean that there are certain rules and regulations? Nope. Keep on reading.
The small gate: why did Jesus say that it was small? Could only one person fit through it at a time? (So much for the visual.) In the King James Version of the Bible, the word “strait” is used in place of “small”. The Greek word for strait is Stenos. It means “narrow (from obstacles standing close about.)”
I looked up the word “strait” online and this is what it said. “Used in reference to a situation characterized by a specified degree of trouble or difficulty.” The example it gave was "The economy is in dire straits."
That definition fits Jesus’ meaning pretty well. He tells us in John 16:33 that “In this world you will have trouble.” And looking at other Bible translations, I found that a couple of them used wording that describes the small gate and narrow road a little differently, perhaps more literally.
“Because the gate is narrow and the way is hard pressed(a) which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Footnote: (a) Or the way is afflicted.” This is from the (The Scriptures 2009, or TS2009. It says that it is used with permission from Institute for Scripture Research)
“For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” (ESV English Standard Version)
So, why is the small gate considered an “obstacle”? It’s like the online comment above stated, that the word “strait” references “a situation characterized by a specified degree of trouble or difficulty.”
You see, many cannot except what the Bible says about two things in particular, one, His birth from a virgin, and two, His resurrection from the dead after being dead for three days. There is another that people have a hard time grasping, and that is the concept of eternal life, living forever, no more death. The Prophet Isaiah foretold of Jesus’ birth...
“Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)
An angel of the Lord spoke to Joseph the man betrothed to the virgin Mary...
"The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" (which means "God with us").”
“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:23, 21)
Concerning Jesus’ resurrection, He said to his disciples...
"We are going up to Jerusalem," he said, "and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise." (Mark 10:33-34)
Isaiah prophesied Jesus’ resurrection in the 53rd chapter of Isaiah...
“After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.” (Isaiah 53:11)
(Isaiah 52:13 through Isaiah 53:12 foretell the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. It is said that the 53rd chapter of Isaiah is forbidden for the Jews to read. I believe this is because of the unmistakable details of the crucifixion and resurrection, which mirror exactly what happened according to many eyewitnesses, which you can read about in all four Gospels in the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. This is probably because the Jewish people might put two and two together and understand that Jesus truly was their Messiah that had come, the same one that their nation at that time had crucified.
The most heard verse heard from the Bible is…
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
(A quick note before moving on. Notice the first part of John 3:16 where it says, ”For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.” I guess you could say that this is what it’s all about. God loves the world, including you and me, so much so, that He allowed his Son Jesus to suffer and die on the cross for us.)
All these things, the virgin birth, the resurrection of Jesus, and the promise of living forever can be hard to understand, and hard to believe, but you must at least try to believe what the Bible tells us, beginning with the creation of our Earth, if you are to enter through the gate at all. If you do not believe that God created the world, then you probably won’t believe the rest. Those who do choose to believe will live forever, God has promised us that. But for those who choose not to believe, they will spend eternity in Hell. It’s the price for not believing the God who gave them life and everything in it.
If a person is in doubt about any of these things, they should get alone with God and try talking to Him. They should ask Him to make himself real to them in some way. They should ask Him to help them understand these difficult things in the Bible.
Speaking of doubting God…After Jesus had risen from the grave, He showed himself to his disciples, except for one who was not there, Thomas. Because he did not see Jesus, he said…
“Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe."
A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!"
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe." Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." (John 20:24-29)
“Blessed are those who have NOT seen and yet have believed.” That includes you and me. FAITH, TRUST, BELIEVE. And like they say, it is not a blind faith. In the times of the early church there were some miracles that were manifested to help in people’s unbelief, things like the healing of diseases and infirmities.
God still works miracles today, but I believe they are rare in the public eye, and only done when God has seen fit to heal someone to encourage their faith and the faith of others who witnessed the miracle. There are many who have prayed for miracles but have not received them. I am one of those. But we will receive them in God’s timing and in His way. I have faith in that, in my loving God.
It's normal to have doubts about these things at first. But once you can say to yourself “I believe that Jesus did die for me and rose from the grave three days later.” and mean it in your heart, the doubting will begin to disappear, and Jesus will begin to make Himself more and more real to you as you continue learning about Him and listening for the voice of the Holy Spirit to speak within you, helping you to remember all that Jesus said.
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
But there are still others, like myself, who had to be broken in their heart and spirit to enable the walls of doubt to start coming down, so that we would finally call on God and ask Him to save us from this dying world, ourselves, and especially from spending eternity in Hell.
“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18)
For me, I had to lose everything that meant anything to me before I would humble myself and tell God that I needed his help. But it doesn’t need to be that way. When you look around at what’s happening in the world right now and realize that it’s on a collision course with destruction, you should be asking yourself “What if this really is the end? What’s going to happen when I die? Will I just cease to exist, or will I really go to a place like Hell, or Heaven?” Sooner or later, we will all have to face our Maker, either to be welcomed to a wonderful eternity, or sentenced to an everlasting Hell for not believing that Jesus died for us.
(I realize that I mention these things in my writings quite a bit, but we must choose before it’s too late. And each of us can never know if too late is ten years from now, or tomorrow. Think about that.)
We only have the two choices…
Heaven or Hell.
There is only one way that you can enter through the gate that leads to Heaven and eternal life. That way is in believing that Jesus is the Son of God, and that everything the Gospels say about Him are true, that He truly did die on the cross to save us from Hell. He said...
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6 NIV)
That’s why the “small, or strait gate” can be considered hard, troubling, or difficult. It takes sincere faith in what Jesus did for us. When trying to describe what faith in Jesus is to someone that has not been born again can be difficult. This is the Bible’s definition of faith.
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1 KJV)
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (NIV)
This verse is saying that we are trusting what we know about Jesus, and hoping with all hope that He is truly the Savior of the world foretold in the Bible. We cling to this hope with confidence that God is real, that the Bible is true, and even though we cannot see these things our hearts tell us that they are true. That’s true faith. One other verse about faith says...
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
God loves his children and wants to reward those who earnestly seek Him. I’m not sure if this reward is one of the crowns that we’re promised, or if it’s something else. Whatever it is, it must be amazing. If God can create the stars, the moon, and the sun, He can give us just about anything that He wants. Praise the Lord!
Moving forward, yes, faith can be hard. But there is another word. It is the word trust. If in our hearts, we can find a place to “trust” what Moses wrote about the creation of the world, for example, it’s a great start (Genesis 1:1 NIV) to trusting and understanding everything else that God wants us to know, from the beginning to the end…and then…to the new beginning without end.
The only other option is what so called “scientists” call the big bang “theory”. They call it theory because they can’t prove it. So that leaves us with two choices, either an eternal being, God, created the world and people to live on it, or an explosion happened somewhere in outer space a trillion years ago sending all the pieces to our universe, creating the perfect setting to sustain life, create human bodies with an incredible system of healing itself, and minds to create things from the many resources that our planet just happen to have when they all showed up and turned into a ball we now call earth.
Personally, I’ve seen diagrams of the human body and learned that it is perfectly designed for creating and sustaining life, from birth throughout adulthood. All the organs are placed in perfect succession performing amazing tasks that help our bodies to function perfectly. Well, most of the time.
And when I look into the wonderous eyes of the newborn baby, I truly believe, trust, that that little thing didn’t just happen because a rock exploded in space. If so, I’d like to see that rock. But until then I will put my faith and trust in a God whose book tells us exactly how all of it came to be, the Bible. It tells me how that baby came to be. It tells me the history of the world. And it tells me how it’s going to end. And that’s important to know if you’re interested.
Now that we’ve entered through the small gate, what’s next? The narrow “road” that leads to life. The first thing we need to understand is that the hardest work has already been done by Jesus.
The narrow road comes after you have been saved. This is important because so many people believe that they must be prepared, or “cleaned up” before they can enter God’s Kingdom. That is wrong. Faith in what Jesus did at the cross and His resurrection is the ONLY thing that is required to enter God’s Kingdom. This is contrary to what some religions teach. Some say that you must do this or that to qualify for Heaven. The thief on the cross next to Jesus’, asked Him to remember him when He entered His Kingdom. That man put his faith and trust in Jesus’ claim that He was the Son of God sent to the world to save it, not condemn it. That’s all! His dying plea was all that he could offer Jesus, and it was enough.
When Jesus came to Earth, living a sinless life, he fulfilled the law that Moses had given the Israelites, in the Old Testament. His crucifixion, and the blood that He shed, were the sacrifices that fulfilled God the Fathers conditions to rid the world of death and sin in the lives of those who would put their faith in what Jesus had done.
Jesus’ last words before he died were “It is finished.” His mission to save mankind was complete. The only thing left was to rise from the dead. At that point, Jesus the man, became much more. He became the small gate that led to eternal life. When He rose from the dead it defeated death for everyone that would put their faith in Him.
Because of what Jesus did, we don’t need to do anything but believe. That’s all the thief on the cross did. It’s all I did. It’s all that any born again believer ever did. That’s why you hear many Christians referred to as “Believers”.
The narrow “road” is the one that prepares us for eternity. The Bible tells us that we will rule and reign with Jesus someday. It also tells us that we will judge angels. This is where preparation comes in. This is why we follow Jesus’ teachings, to become more like Him so that we are better prepared to rule with Him.
In Thayer’s Greek Definitions, “narrow” is defined ‘metaphorically to trouble, afflict, distress’. In Strong’s Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries is says ‘afflict, narrow, throng, suffer tribulation, trouble’.
Jesus walked this narrow road before we did. He suffered physically to the point of death. He suffered mentally and spiritually as well, in His times of great distress. By going through all these things Jesus became our advocate and high priest. Those things qualified Him to help us during our times of trouble and distress. The writer of the Book of Hebrews wrote this speaking of Jesus…
“For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.
Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” (Hebrews 2:17-18)
You might ask, “Why do I have to go through these troubles and distress if I’m already saved?” The first thing that we need to understand here is that everything we go through is for God’s glory, and for our good. Each trial that we go through, big, or small, leads to spiritual growth that will help us to become leaders that will rule and reign with Christ in the future. The Apostle Paul wrote…
“For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him, since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.” (Philippians 1:29-30 NIV)
Paul told the Corinthians…
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.
If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer.” (2nd Corinthians 1:3-6 NIV)
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:2-4)
When you become a born again Christian, you begin to change from the inside out. And in the case of suffering, we can look at our troubles with a sense of joy because we have suffered for Jesus like He suffered for us. If a person is not born again, they probably won’t understand how we can feel any joy in times when most people would be feeling fear and worry. The Bible says that Jesus went through all that He did because he knew what would come after He had suffered and died. And now we too can look past our troubles to the day of seeing our Savior face to face, and hearing words like “Well done good and faithful servant.”
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
The narrow road is not just about suffering. It’s also about growing to know the Lord Jesus more intimately. It’s about learning how to truly love people, learning how to really forgive, and so much more. When we walk the road of faith, God is pleased and glorified. And in all these things that we experience we can be improved for our own good. That’s a good thing to remember whenever you’re going through something difficult.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
The narrow road can often times be like a “proving ground” for some. There are many who say, “Yes, I have entered through the small gate.” But they have only gone through the motions. You might ask “What does that mean?”
Many people call themselves a Christian. And many of them will say that they know Jesus. There are many people who have sat in a church on a Sunday morning, or on a holiday like Christmas or Easter and then that claim they are a Christian, or know who Jesus is, but not really know Him.
There are even people who have been going to church every Sunday for years that don’t know Jesus. They know that Jesus died on the cross, and that He rose three days later according to something they’ve read or heard from a pastor, but do they really know Him in their heart, or is it just in their mind? Knowing and believing who Jesus is are two very different things. Jesus gave us a vivid warning about claiming to know Him when we really don’t…
“Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?" He said to them, "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.
Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, 'Sir, open the door for us.' "But he will answer, 'I don't know you or where you come from.' "Then you will say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.' "But he will reply, 'I don't know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!'
"There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God.
Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last." (Luke 13:22-30)
PART 2 - BELOW
“Someone asked him, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?" The answer is yes. This leaves us to ask ourselves “Am I one of the few?” Only you and God know the answer to that question. But you can examine yourselves, as the Bible says…
“Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?” (2ndCorinthians 13:5)
What does it mean to fail the test? First, I’ll share what David Guzik wrote concerning this verse…
“Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? Paul asks the Corinthian Christians to consider a sobering question: “Am I really a Christian?”
i. We are rightly concerned that every believer has the assurance of salvation and knows how to endure the attacks that come in this area from Satan. At the same time we also understand that there are some who assume or presume they are Christians when they are not. It is a challenge to all: Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?
ii. We are often very ready to examine and test others, but first - and always first - we must examine and test ourselves. “That was the trouble at Corinth. They criticized Paul and failed to examine themselves.” (Redpath)
iii. “To examine yourself, in fact, is to submit to the examination and scrutiny of Jesus Christ the Lord - and this never to fix attention on sin but on Christ - and to ask Him to reveal that in you which grieves His Spirit; to ask Him to give you grace that it might be put away and cleansed in His precious blood.” Self examination “takes the chill away from your soul, it takes the hardness away from your heart, it takes the shadows away from your life, it sets the prisoner free.” (Redpath)
iv. “Now, ‘prove yourselves.’ Do not merely sit in your closet and look at yourselves alone, but go out into this busy world and see what kind of piety you have. Remember, many a man’s religion will stand examination that will not stand proof. We may sit at home and look at our religion, and say, ‘Well, I think this will do!’” (Spurgeon)
v. Unless indeed you are disqualified: Paul knew there were some among the Corinthian Christians who were disqualified for eternal life and salvation. Their thinking was worldly because they were of the world, not of the Lord. This is a hard truth to confront, but it is better to know now than when it is too late. The word for disqualified is simply the negative of the word for testin this same passage. If we don’t examine ourselves and testourselves now, we may find that we ultimately don’t pass the test and are disqualified.”
Before we move on, I’d like to briefly share my own thoughts on “the test”. When a person begins to attend a church, they bow their heads and listen as the speaker is praying. We may or may not know Jesus at that time. But when we begin to pray by ourselves on a regular basis it shows commitment. Then a time will come when your prayers become more like a time of just talking with the Lord, telling Him what’s going on in your life, the good and the bad. But when you begin to listen for His answers, whether in your time of prayer or not, it shows that faith is working in you.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
When I was first born again, my prayers were very generic, covering all the bases, A to Z. And I usually didn’t talk to God. It was more like getting the answering machine and leaving a message. But then I began to desire being closer to God and knowing Him better. I began to want to thank Him more and more. I imagined wanting to sit by a campfire and ask Jesus all sorts of questions. When my time with God began to be more personal, like that, I began to feel much more satisfied in my knowing God more intimately. God was no longer just my God. He became my Father, my Friend, my Companion, and my Teacher.
Will I pass the test? Will Jesus know me when I meet Him? I believe so. But until that day comes, I will continue to spend as much time with Him as I possibly can. He has become the most important Person in my life. When you feel that…perhaps that’s when you’ll feel as though you passed the test.
When a person knows Jesus from their hearts, and they are born again, they learn to understand why things happen to them, or to others. One of the biggest questions in the world has always been “Why me?” But when you know Jesus, you know the answer to that question. You know that God uses every experience that we go through for our good, and of course for his glory.
For those who don’t understand why things happen, they sometimes begin to think that there must be a better way, and they begin to walk away from the faith, thinking “I didn’t sign up for this!” (Satan may very well plant that thought into your mind.) If that person continues to walk away, it’s very possible that they only knew “of” Jesus but didn’t really “know” Him.
There are others in the churches who also don’t know God but claim to. There are many people standing behind the pulpit today, that don’t really know God. That may seem impossible, but it’s true. I think the next passage of Scripture will help you to understand that…
"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' (Matthew 7:21-23)
I believe there are many pastors and teachers in our churches today that don’t know really know Jesus. Some of them do it for the money, or a job. But God’s church needs born again men to lead them. It also needs men and women who are born again to teach the children the ways of God. When the church is led by people who are Christians only in name, the only thing that usually gets produced in them is more people and children who don’t really know God. This is one of the primary reasons that society has become so immoral. Without the Spirit of God living in our society it will become more and more godless, just like the Bible tells us. Paul, writing to the young pastor Timothy said...
“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” (2ndTimothy 3:1-5)
Our Lord Jesus told the Apostle John to write the following letter to the Church in Laodicea. It was intended for the church today also, especially for those who are not making true disciples as they should, but have instead led their congregations down the road of apostasy "having a form of godliness but denying its power”.
“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.
Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne.
Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches." (Revelation 3:15-22)
Jesus is telling the church to wake up. Anyone who really knows Jesus should be considered “on fire” for God. That means really wanting to live for Him and show the world what true disciples of Christ look like.
But sadly, it seems that many of the churches are not teaching their congregations to repent of doing sinful things, forsaking them, and doing things in God’s way. This misleads the congregation into believing that their salvation is secure just the way things are, not even knowing if their flock has been born again. There are many people in the churches right now that will be surprised when they are not raptured with the rest. That’s because they were never taught about repentance and being born of the Spirit. It’s in the Bible but pastors have chosen to teach a “live your best life now” kind of sermon instead. But when the day of the rapture comes it will be like a parable that Jesus taught in Matthew 13:24-30 and 13:36-43. (Please read this in your Bible. It is one of the most important passages concerning whether someone is truly saved or not.)
That passage can be a good way of looking at today’s churches and society. When it’s time to pull the weeds (the unsaved ones) they will be sent to Hell. The wheat (those that truly know Jesus) on the other hand will spend eternity with God. This is why it’s so important for pastors to teach the whole Bible. And the same goes for anyone that calls themselves a Christian. If you just assume that you’re saved, remember this determines where you will spend eternity. It’s the one thing you need to make sure of. And the only way to do that is to pray and ask Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior, meaning that you truly believe that He died on the cross to pay your sin debt, rose from the dead to give you eternal life, and daily living your life to please God by following the teachings of the Bible.
Just think what our society would be like if everyone “really” knew Jesus. Less hate and more love. But until we get to Heaven, only a few will really know and follow Him. God wants to fill His Kingdom with people that He has known from afar, and they Him. No one in Heaven will be a stranger to God. He will be our Father and we will all be His children.
One other important note about truly knowing Jesus, is that when you hear or read something in Scripture that you don’t understand, you are still able to accept it as true. This is because believers “know” in their hearts that everything written in the Bible is the inspired Words of God, given to the writers through the Holy Spirit. There are things in the Bible that may seem contrary to what you know of God. Those are things that can, and will, test your faith. But eventually God will help you understand why He acted as He did in certain situations. God is a god of Love. But He is also a god of justice, doing what needs to be done to protect His children. We need to fully hear God out before we make any judgments.
So, the narrow road can be lined with obstacles that test our faith, but just beyond each one is a reward of some kind, a reward from our Holy God. It’s not a road that we should be afraid to travel. But just like any other road that we’ve never been down before, we must move forward cautiously.
One last note on the narrow road. Watchman Nee wrote a book called The Normal Christian Life. Do you know why he titled it that? It was because he wanted his readers to understand that what they were about to read was “truly” the normal Christian life.
The normal Christian life is not only love and joy. It can, at times, be sorrowful, or even very trying physically and emotionally, just as it was for Jesus. But like Jesus, we just keep looking ahead. When we can accept that the normal Christian life is filled with up’s as well as downs, then we can move ahead victoriously.
The narrow road is said to lead to life. Two types of life are meant here, at least from my perspective. One, this road leads to a life here and now that can be more fruitful and joyful as we grow in Christ. Knowing Jesus changes lives. Many who have come to know Jesus now live just the opposite of the lives they had before. Where at one time there wasn’t much, there is now more than enough. Where there was one no hope, there is now eternal hope. As I said above, we are changed from the inside out. And inside many of us is a person waiting to burst into life, leaving the past behind us, now and forever. Second, this road leads to eternal life. To me, this is one of my favorite things about being a Christian. Can you imagine living forever? But what does that mean? You might say that you know someone who was a true Believer that just passed away and was buried in a cemetery. If they were a true Believer, they are now alive for eternity. The cemetery only holds their bodies until Jesus glorifies them, giving them a new body that will never die, or even feel sick again.
Many have passed from this life to the next via the natural way, through aging and subsequent death. Some have entered eternal life because of an accident, or some medical problem. But the very moment that someone here breathes their very last breath, the next breath is taken in Heaven with Jesus and the others who are there to welcome them. This is all because Jesus rose from the dead after He had been dead three days. The moment He rose from the grave he would never die again. With His spirit now living in us, we too will live forever. Like the Bible says, “Death, where is thy sting?”
“When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory." "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" (1st Corinthians 15:54-55)
This road to life also has one amazing and wonderful attribute, sinlessness. When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the worlds sin debt, including yours and mine. What that means is that Jesus’ righteousness, His standing before God, has also been conferred on us. Does this mean that we will never sin again? No. It means that if we do sin again Jesus is standing in God’s courtroom proclaiming our innocence. The devil will try to convince you differently, but it is best to shut him completely out of your mind and your life. He’s always been a liar. Jesus said this about Satan…
“He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44)
Do you believe that you will live forever? You can and should if you’re born again. Dying in this life shouldn’t worry you. For in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye…you will be in Heaven, never to see death ever again. It won’t exist. And neither will sin. This is the road that I want to be on. It’s worth every step of the way in the “normal Christian life”.
“Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.” (1st Corinthians 15:51-52)
But only a few find this Way that Jesus spoke of. Right now, Heaven is filled with believers. How many…we don’t know. In that group are people who have placed their faith in Jesus over the past 2000 years. But there are others who entered Heaven before Jesus came. Some of Heavens earliest dwellers include Abraham whose faith was considered as righteousness. Then there was Noah. Enoch is another, and so is Elijah. But there are many more, I’m sure. Abraham was not the only one whose faith pleased God. Today’s Bible would need at least ten more volumes if God were to have written about all those early believers. But there is one book where their names are written down, the Book of Life. But we also know that there are many whose names were not written in that Book.
“For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith." (Romans 1:17)
“Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.” (Revelation 21:27)
We can understand the small gate and narrow road better when we look at today’s society and see how very few seem to have chosen to follow Jesus and gone after living for their life here and now, without any concern for their eternal future. Some estimates have said that only about 2% to 5 % of the world’s population is truly born again. That means that there are only about 2 to 5 people out of every 100 that put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ.
Many know the way but refuse to go through the small gate. It was the same during Jesus’ time in Israel. His own people didn’t believe that he was who he said that he was…the Son of God. At one point some said, “This teaching is too hard.” They said this after Jesus had told them that He was the bread of life and that they needed to eat of this bread. They didn’t understand that He was telling them that by partaking of Him, through belief in the blood that He was going to shed on the cross, that they could be saved. They took Jesus too literally. In the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John Jesus is explaining to the people how He is the bread of life. But they did not understand.
“Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world." (John 6:32-33, 35-36, 47-51)
But some did believe. Four of them wrote the Gospels. Another wrote several epistles in the New Testament. Peter wrote two. And there were others who have passed on the Good News down through the ages, finally coming to you and I. Many who did so were martyred for their faith in Jesus. Some of them knew Jesus personally, others knew Him only by the faith that they put in what these men and women, along with God’s Word, had said about the coming Messiah.
As I sit here looking at the computer screen, I’m at a loss to explain why there are so few that have, and will, find the small gate. We all see the state that the world is in right now. It’s becoming less and less friendly, loving, and peaceful. Doors that used to stay unlocked are now dead bolted for safety in our own homes. The “few” can be found if you look hard enough. You might find a “few” in the local churches. But don’t expect them to be overflowing with Christians who are on-fire for God, living for Him daily with joy and zeal. Again, this shouldn’t surprise us.
Many who have access to the small gate remain just outside of it. For them, to enter it would cost too much. For many it would be separation from some of their friends, associates, and maybe even family members. And we can’t forget about the pleasures of life that they treasure. The world does have many things to draw us in, but when they outweigh God in our lives, then the gate stays closed to them. The Word teaches us that God should come before anything else in this world, even family members and friends, should they decide to shun you because of your faith. The parable of the Sower explains the things that keep a person from knowing Jesus. Among them...
“The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life's worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.” (Luke 8:14)
Others stay outside the gate because they don’t understand how to get in. I was one of those. As I said above, I thought that church attendance and “being good” was the ticket into Heaven. I’m so glad that someone helped me understand God’s ways better. If not, I might still be sitting in a pew one of these days just after the rapture of the true believers.
So many people say things like “I’m not ready” or “I have plenty of time before I have to make that decision.” My answer to the second response is…No. No, you don’t have plenty of time. Time is running out for this world. Everything that is happening in this world right now was foretold two thousand years ago.” A cashless society is going to be implemented by placing a mark on the hand or forehead. (Revelation) A one world government. A one world religion. And much more. Things are happening so fast now that it could start any day now. I never used to think so, but I watch what is happening in the world, and all of what I see has most definitely been prophesied in the Bible in the Book of Revelation…
“It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.” (Revelation 13:16-18)
(The thirteenth chapter of Revelation describes how the antichrist will gain power over the world and control everything, even who lives or dies. Chapter seventeen tells about the one world religion. Please read these if you can. This is all prophesied to happen, which means it will if you know anything about Biblical prophecy.)
I’ve written about these things before, and you can find the writings on my Facebook page, or our website The Printed Word. But right now, we all must decide what we’re going to believe, and who we’re going to put our hope in.
Yes, the gate is small. But if you truly want to want to live for eternity, you will enter that gate by asking Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior right now. If you say, “I’ll do it later.” You may not have time. The rapture of the church can happen at any moment now according to Biblical experts. Taking the chance to wait could be the worst mistake that you’ve ever made because once the rapture happens you will be left here on earth to face the seven worst years of mankind. There will be no warning! I repeat, there will be no warning! But for those who choose to follow Jesus…
“They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor.” (Isaiah 61:3)
I’m reminded of the old Marine Corps motto, “The Few, The Proud, The Marines”. It takes guts to be a Marine. At times it takes guts to be a Christian too. Only a few find the way to the greatest future anyone can imagine. You can be one of the few if you just look to Jesus and believe that what He did on the cross was for you. He died so that you could live forever. He died for you because He loves you.
“LET NOTHING MOVE YOU.”
(1st Corinthians 15:58 NIV 1984)
“We are to be firm and unshaken in our Christian hopes, and in our faith in the gospel.”
(Albert Barnes’ Notes on the Bible)
Paul had just written to the Church at Corinth about the resurrection, and the rapture. Many opposed this view, saying that there was no resurrection, and fought against it, just as they fought about Jesus being the Savior of the world. This war of words and doctrines continues today.
These words, “Let nothing move you”, are just as important now as they were 2000 years ago. But, as Christians, I believe we should apply this phrase to all areas of our walk with the Lord. This would include times when we’re confronted by false teachings, times of temptation and trial, times of worry and doubt, and times of fear. Jesus himself is our best example of being immovable during these times in our lives. I can’t really say that Jesus worried, or had doubts, or even feared. But when we see Him in Gethsemane, sweating drops of blood, we can see that he was troubled, as he said, "My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.” (Matthew 26:38 NIV) But, despite this time of deep sadness, Jesus was able to stand up and face his accusers as they approached him.
Today the world, Satan, and our flesh are warring against us. Sometimes the battles seem to keep coming no matter what we do. What is the solution? How do we fight these constant attacks? God said, “Be still, and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10 NIV)
Sometimes we forget how big our God is. We forget that He’s the same one who created the Earth, the moon, the sun, and the stars. He’s the one that breathed life into Adam after creating him out of the dust of the ground.
Do you know who is behind all the problems that we face in the world? If you said Satan, you are correct. Did you know that Satan is a created being. He was created along with all the other angels of Heaven. But He rebelled against God and was cast down to the Earth.
Do you remember the phrase “I brought you into this world, and I can take you out.”? The same goes for Satan. God can take Satan out any time that He wants. But in His infinite wisdom He saw how He could use Satan to test the people of the world, to see who would faithfully follow Him, or be rebellious, as Satan had been before he was expelled from Heaven.
You see, God could have created a bunch of humanoid type creatures that would roam the world performing menial tasks, but He envisioned more. He saw that he could create ones that would experience and know love, as He does and is. Hopefully this will satisfy all those who ask, “Why did God create someone that was evil to tempt us?” If not, we’ll keep trying.
So, now that we know who our battles originate with, Satan, we can work on our strategies, with the help that we find in God’s Word. For example, Paul, when writing about forgiveness said to the Corinthians, “Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.” (2nd Corinthians 2:10-11 NIV)
Forgiveness is one of the greatest tools we can use against Satan’s schemes. When we truly forgive someone, a stronghold is broken. When that happens, he no longer has a grip on us in that relationship. When I first became a Christian, there were two people in my life who I claimed that I would, or could, never forgive. I was wrong. But I didn’t do it on my own. I asked God to help me. The moment I prayed “Lord, help me to forgive those (I named them) who have hurt me.” the unforgiveness was gone. Instead of holding resentment towards them, I began to pray for them, hoping they would also know God’s love.
The devils’ schemes are many, but they are easy to identify, when you know what to look for. In God’s Word you will be able to examine all of these and see how God deals with them.
Above, we briefly looked at “being still” “and knowing that He is God”. But how do we apply that in our own struggles? Let’s look at Exodus 14:14, where it says…
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still."
Do you know the circumstances surrounding this verse? It’s when the Israelites had fled Egypt. In his anger, the Pharaoh decided to stop them. He was quickly gaining on them, and the Israelites were terrified, so they cried out. They told Moses that he should not have interfered and let them stay in Egypt instead of now dying by the sword in the desert.
But God was in control. He told Moses to raise his staff over the waters of the Red Sea. And when he did God sent a strong east wind to hold the waters back providing dry land for the Israelites to cross over on. When they had all reached the other side, and the Egyptians were in the middle of the passage through the sea, God released the waters which then covered the soldiers, killing every one of them.
A man obeyed God and held his staff up, then God did the rest. That’s our outline. Obey God and let Him do what He does best…take care of those that He loves. But that doesn’t mean that we do nothing at all. Again, we turn to the Apostle Paul…
“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2ndCorinthians 10:3-5 NIV)
One way that we can make a thought “obedient to Christ” is to pray about it.
Everything we do in our life should be “obedient to Christ.” By doing so we become more like Christ in all our ways. But when we are faced with an attack by the enemy, we need to tell God exactly what happened. This is when He begins to fight for us. And this is when we begin to search the Scriptures for our weapons. The first place to look is at the Armor of God, which is found in Ephesians 6:10-18. These weapons teach us about being strong in the Lord, grounded in all His promises towards you. But we must be fully armed. That means that we must stand our ground as a child of God. It means that we know and understand God’s truth as it is written from Genesis to Revelation. We must also remember that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross gave us victory over all God’s enemies. His blood covered us with the righteousness of God. Do you know what that means? It means that we are blameless in God’s sight. It means that no accusation from the devil will condemn us. It means that we truly are a child and heir of God. But we must hold tightly onto this truth. The devil is very cunning…but above all…he is the father of lies.
The gospel of peace is also a part of our armor. To me this represents the peace of God which guards my heart and spirit. It helps me to dispel fears and doubts. The gospel of peace might also be used to bring a lost soul to their knees at the hearing of God’s love, peace, and forgiveness. Sometimes peace is the best alternative, even for an enemy.
Our shield of faith reminds us that all God’s promises are yes. Our total faith in Him can truly demolish strongholds. Faith knows that God is in complete control of what happens to us. Our faith also dispels fears and doubts. Faith knows how to rejoice at all times.
The helmet of Salvation might be our best piece of armor. Knowing that you are saved and have a glorious eternity ahead of you allows you to claim as Paul did…
“I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:20-21 NIV)
The Word of God, your Sword of the Spirit, helps us in battle, in healing, in marching on. As we grow in Christ, more and more of the Word of God is embedded into our Spirits. And as we face unexpected foes, we have a friend who will help us with our Sword. His name is the Holy Spirit. Jesus said…
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26 NIV)
Jesus told us not to worry about what to say in many instances, that the Holy Spirit would give us the right words. Reading your Bible sharpens this sword every time you read it.
The last of our weapons is prayer. Being a child of God, you only need to call on the name of Jesus. My prayer for salvation was “God, help me. My ways don’t work.” That’s when the Holy Spirit flowed into my entire body. Every single time we call on God, he hears us. At that point we hold our position and stand firm knowing that our Father is aware of what is happening right that minute. He hears you immediately! Call on Him!
I’d like to share the following passage from the Book of Romans. It holds some very important truths that you might want to wear along with your armor. Paul wrote…
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.
Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Romans 8:26-39 NIV)
Whatever it is that you’re facing today, right this minute, God is ready. His plan is going exactly as He designed it. Remember to be strong in the Lord. Remember the armor that He has assembled for you…truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit. And always pray.
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
(1st Corinthians 15:57-58 NIV)
“Lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."
(Luke 21:28 NIV)
God Bless!
